Sunday, 11 December 2016

Dear Module 1 friends,

My special wishes to you and to all your loved ones to have an ideal Christmas..an occasion that is celebrated as a reflection of your values, desires, affections, and traditions. May you have a Christmas that is more special than it has ever been. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!

I am wondering why all are so quiet and not sharing anything on your blogs after 4th December?? I was little disappointed as there were no inputs or ideas or experiences being shared. Having said that, let me express my thoughts on the new learning..the in-text citation.  The key leanings are:
1.Whether you use a quotation or paraphrased materiel you must cite the source that gave you information.
2.You must provide the last name of the author, followed by the year of publication and the page number.
3. It can be confusing as to when to use present/past tense? In most cases when you are referring to what an author says, you conclude in present tense and if you think that the author has found something(in past) as a part of his/her case study use past tense.
4.Always make sure the reader knows which citation belongs to which sentence, and each part of the citation is separated with commas, then add the period at the end.
5. when you simply making a general statement you don't need page number but be sure you include author and year as a grammatical part of the sentence or include it in the parenthetical citation at the end of the sentence.
6. when you are doing research, and when the  material is in front of you, please cite it there and then,if you think you are going back you will be simply doubling your work, and you will definitely miss something. So the best way is to 'Cite while you write'.

Important Notification:  myUniHub will be unavailable from 9 am Monday 19th December to 1am 21st December as a part of a University wide IT project.
Hope this helps!!  Do comment!!

Experiences of writing ROL and AOL!!

Hi Friends,
It was great to discuss various things  over  Skype chat yesterday ,4th December 2016. I would like to express few things which I am  learning the process of completing  module 1.
My internal experiences while studying were..
The most difficult thing I encountered when I started this module was, to get familiarize with Middlesex university's student portal myUnihub...then locating online study materials, understanding the handbook, knowing from where to start writing and articulating thoughts into words. Subsequently, I created  my Mental map - First thing in the morning wake up at 5 facilitate kids to go to school then to pray, meditate, cook clean and enter to study from  9 am study till 2 pm. manage to grab couple of hours post diner.  At times I feel guilty if I am not studying or working on my essay. However,While studying, I avoid distractions like face book, Email,Mobile etc.. Focusing more on reading, writing, thinking reflecting in one quiet corner of my house.
Learning to improve my writing skills: Using various links, I learnt how to write using impersonal language and phrases, more formal rather than chatty, writing clearly keeping the reader in mind by avoiding complex sentences and being concise in expressing my ideas. Learning to use appropriate quotations in support of my argument,Structuring the work  and concluding with critical thinking.
Trying to adapt Referencing- by acknowledging all sources used in the work. Simultaneously, working on my Job description, updating my portfolio as well as gathering and sorting various evidences to claim credentials. I realize each job consumes enormous amount of time and my mind is preoccupied with reflective thoughts, always searching for good sources and inputs which could add points to my essay.
Seriously, I never imagined I could write so much about my learning, as a performing artist, teacher choreographer, I feel the deeper you learn the deeper you know 'what You Do not know'. This is certainly a big eye-opener for me. Thus, I completely agree with this statement..'The process of learning is not about the accumulation of material of learning, but about the process of changing conception'.(Bowden and Marton,1998).
To conclude and submit Module 1 essays..still I need to learn how to
1.Put all these essays, evidences, Job description, annotated CV, in 'ONE FILE'?
2, How to create a proper portfolio? Do I need to insert my dance videos photos etc?
3,How to use  my learning outcomes to structure claim for accreditation?
4. Does the academic levels of  my learning depend upon the way I describe and analyse my essays?
last but not the least,
5. I need to understand and the ways to express the level of my learning as stated in the Review of learning handbook.
I really look forward to hear some comments and suggestion on this please.
Thanks.

Learning..progressing..Everyday!!

Hi Friends !!
It looks like everyone is busy thinking.. planning.. and illustrating Areas of learning !!!

Reflecting thoughts all the time has stolen my early morning and late evenings as I get engrossed in my areas of learning both consciously and sub-consciously. More than my kids, my books are seen all over the place. I am going through range of mixed emotions not knowing whatever I am writing is right or not, it is just going on its own way. However, as I dive into the books I get a sense of understanding how beautifully  authors have expressed their thoughts either  about behavior learning attitude, or highly motivated learner or how the external and internal forces enable the learner to learn under cognitive current structure. I discovered that internal experience can be much more effective and richer than the external one.
As Perry's approach suggests, commitment plays a vital role in self  development, in my case it is so very apt, as I realized that only because  of my personal commitment  I  registered for this MA course.  It is interesting to read different views of authors as most of them are so relevant to our own situation and circumstances.
As rightly said by Bowden and Marton,1998 the process of learning is not, therefore about the accumulation of material of learning but about the process of changing conception.
Do share your opinions and thoughts !!
Thanks.

Discovering Inadequacy!

Hi,
This journey of thinking and writing on our topic makes me go crazy and I feel inadequate. I took a break as continuous search for literature was stressful, however I diverted my mind  towards annotating my job description and portfolio. It was only through reading, I discovered what I had been doing for years. Considering my past work, subconsciously I am hunting  for something..very desperate  and restless at the same time!!!
Trusting my abilities I continued my search today and happened to watch some videos on academic style of writing  which enlightened me about common errors made during writing essays.
I am yet to integrate theories and practice.

Thoughts that emerged from 6th November Skype chat!!
As I embark on the narratives about Review of learning  I noticed that I have been writing my experiences reflecting my journey as a student more than as a teacher.  From yesterday's discussion I realized that ROL should also include narratives about the Module 1 learning. I have to now focus on integrating  theories read with my narratives by following appropriate referencing and illustrations.  I can definitely say that my mind is preoccupied with reflective thoughts from the day I have enrolled to this course.  There will be a shift in the way I take my writing forward after hearing everyone's suggestions yesterday.
Integrating theory and practice and its relevance to my experience in my areas of learning is what I want to focus now.  The ideas that come to me while writing and finding suitable theories is the challenge which I am facing. Sorry, I cant think anything beyond this.
Thanks,

Hi Friends,
I have to share this weird experience with you all.. whole of last week I was trying to write my ROL draft as and when I had queries I wrote to unihelp, I kept wondering why are they not responding as it was more than a week since I raised my query.
As I was browsing today on myUnihub page accidentally  saw my profile(Personal details) in which  my contact email was reflecting a different one but later I learnt it was created by the university which I was not aware of.  I was shocked and immediately wrote another email requesting to resolve my confusion. They sent me a link through which I learnt that I have a different university email account and password, when I logged in I noticed the responses were sent to this mailbox, apparently there were very important notifications regarding online seminar about Review of learning which was on 19th October and 24th October which I missed, felt very miserable.  The next online seminar is on 8th November, did anyone attend those two seminars?
I am very disturbed today by this don't know how this happened? why I didn't I receive any communication about the new university email. I
Its a humble request to my advisers to guide us about these as we are new to this distant learning program.
Thanks.

Hello friends!!
Hi Samantha..I truly understand what you are experiencing at this moment. while we discuss with our adviser we think it sounds simple all we need to write about our experience but when you begin to write thought process  and flow of words becomes slow...we end up thinking for long time rather than writing. Of course time just flies in the  process ....I am also sailing in the same boat.
After many attempts today I am able to read online from my library e-textbook, if you download the book it gives just a single day to read, however if you read online you can copy or print few pages. Each book runs for 250-400 pages....I have been reading Reflection: Turning experiences into learning-by Boud, D.,R.and Walker,D. In 4 hours I could read only 10 pages may be because I am also taking down some points.
I have not found any suitable literature to my AOL titles, some are on google scholar  but then we need to pay for the subscription which looks a bit expensive...I am confused should I go with it or not.
Hey Guys I was wondering if you all paid Module 1 fee?
Cheer up guys!!!! Willingness to experiment makes Uncertainty a Positive one!!! Lets work hard !!
Thanks Samantha for sharing your opinion.  Enjoy studying!!

Hello Module one friends!!
Hope you all are working seriously towards the task...
I am trying to work on AOLs  for the last few days..trust me this process requires lot of time and I am trying to squeeze at least 3 hours a day out of my busy schedule.  Can anyone tell me as to how to get notification when someone writes /comment on MAPP blog?

As I am focusing on the Areas of Learning, I feel I am deviating my views towards reflection of learning..cant really understand the difference between the two.  Did anyone managed to read books which are listed for our reference?  I read few chapters from "Reflective practice" its very helpful. do share your views. Thanks

Hi Module ones!!
Yesterday's discussion with Adesola has given me great ideas as to what could  be my Areas of Learning (AOL).  Focusing on past expereinces this is what I come up with!!
Tittles for my AOL are
 1. "Start from the scratch"...Starting my dance classes in a new Geographic area, exploring various unknown facts..learning from my mistakes, consciously looking for opportunities to show my skills, being humble to ask help and suggestions from those who are already establsihed in the field of dance, performing for charity events to gain some contacts.
2.  Finding ways to teach Indian dance to different cultured background ..encouraging to learn this temple art as Indian dances are mostly based on story telling..Bharatnatyam being an a Visual poetry.
3.Diversity and communication Strategy...How best can I communicate to my students, as sometimes we don't get exact translation to our mother tongue language.
4. Implementing my commerce knowledge to startup my dance class..working out of the logistics space availablity.
5.Organising /performing events..managing the stage lighting and costumes make-up and other aesthetics required for the show.

Parimala's Profile!!

Namaste..Greetings to everyone!!
My name is Parimala Hansoge, a passionate Indian classical dancer, choreographer and an Artistic director of  "Kalavahini". It is my privilege to introduce you all to the traditional classical Indian dance form "Bharatanatyam".
Bharatanatyam the exquisite dance form interprets life, communicates feelings, delineates the essence of Bhaava- the emotion or mood conveyed by the performer, through subtle eye movements and elegant gestures. This visual poetry enhanced by the Raaga or the melody, comes to full vibrance with intense footwork and exclusive rhythm or Taala. These aspects of Bharaatnatyam make it the highest form of Yoga,as it integrates mind body and soul.
currently I am a faculty member of ISTD(Imperial Society for teachers of dancing),UK and an empaneled artist at ICCR(Indian Council for Cultural Relations) India spreading awareness about the rich cultural heritage of India through my performancesand workshops across India and the UK as a freelance dancer. The award "Nritya Nipuna" was conferred on me in the year 2014 for the outstanding performance and expertise in the field of classical dance at Nalanda Nrityotsava a prestigious dance festival organised by Nalanda Nritykala mahavidyala, Mumbai.
I am blessed to have obtained my MPA(Masters in Performing arts) under the able guidance of Guru.Dr.Kanak Rele, Guru.Uma Rele,Guru.Dr. Malathi Agneeshwaran,Guru. Dr.Meenakshi, and Guru.Smt.Ambika Vishwanath.

I was fortunate to have received excellent dance training from my beloved Guru.Smt.Vandya Srinath who affectionately nurtured my dancing skills with her disciplined dance lessons..she provided numerous performance platforms to all her students as she believed that performing enhances self-esteem and boosts confidence in students. Under her able guidance I completed my Vidwat level Bharatnatayma exams and constant encouragement and support from my family enabled me to give my debut performance after I delivered my first baby. I am ever indebted to my husband Pavankumar and my in-laws for their unconditional support .
Travelling to another place called Pune was a turning point of my life as I met senior experienced classical dance exponent  Guru.Smt.Mythili Raghavan Founder Director of Academy of Indian Dances , who wholeheartedly accepted me as her student. Under her guidance I learnt a lot..her discipline, punctuality and dedication towards the dance instilled immense hope and spirit in me to learn  the art form in depth.
Bharatanatyam being a traditional art form, let us understand what Tradition means? Tradition  is like a flowing river. The name remains the same but the water changes every moment. Tradition is something that is handed down to us by our forefathers flowing from ancient times through  successive generation. What we do today becomes the tradition for our children tomorrow.  This art form is ritualistic in nature however, when we look at its growth and development especially during 21st century we have to understand the time frame. In the past temples were the hub of devotional and cultural activity however, with the movement of art outside temple in theater the relationship  between performer and the audience has changed.  The recent trend is to go beyond the mythological theme and express contemporary issues.
